Our group identified Annexin A1 as a new molecular trigger of AMPK activation in macrophages during skeletal muscle regeneration. We showed that Annexin A1 is first produced by infiltrating neutrophils, binds its receptor FPR2 expressed by pro-inflammatory macrophages that activates AMPK and triggers macrophage skewing towards a pro-reparative phenotype.
